A community horticulture venture for
local citizens including people with
a learning disability

The Gates is a not-for-profit horticultural venture that offers local citizens, including people with a learning disability, an opportunity to develop new skills within the local community. It is situated in a tranquil setting at the rear of Brentwood Borough Council’s London Road cemetery and includes beds, greenhouses and a sensory woodland walk.

The aim is to promote independence, choice and inclusion in a safe and supportive environment, involving participants, staff and volunteers in a wide range of activities including horticulture, safe garden management, art and craft workshops, bee keeping and sale of produce in local outlets.

‘It is a delight to see him after he has had a day at The Gates- he is so bucked up at being with Mary , Sandra and Co. and with helping your clients. Keep up the good work."
